Top Secret - Aurora caught my attention because in

addition to the standard Central Otago fare of pinot noir, riesling and pinot gris, they planted syrah, a variety I believed wouldn't ripen in the region. Their first vintage in 2005 produceda syrah that proved my point by being aggressively green and herbal' But in 2006 and every vintage I've tasted since, they've made powerful, edgy syrah with character and class

Who said syrah couldn't be done in Central Otago? It is being work with care in the deep south.  A very flavoursome wine, not heavy yet with heaps of flavour.  Different, a regional statement perhaps young yet generous and just need robust dinner flavours.

2008 Aurora Bendigo Syrah  Vibrant spicy aromas with understated power. The palate is all about finesse with fine grained tannins, intensity of fruit and a long, long finish.  Cool climate shiraz doesn't get much better than this. (14.0 %). Outstanding
